MP4 is supported on almost all devices and platforms, making it the most universal format.

Upload the MOV, choose MP4 as the output format and convert. The two are mostly just different containers around the same H.264 or HEVC video, so the picture is effectively unchanged. Recent iPhones record HEVC (H.265), which older Windows PCs and Android phones often refuse to play — converting to MP4/H.264 makes the clip open everywhere.

Most format changes involve re-encoding, so there is a small theoretical loss. The default quality setting tracks the source closely, though, so a single conversion is visually indistinguishable in practice. To avoid stacking losses, always convert from the original file rather than converting an already converted copy.

For raw compatibility MP4 (H.264) is the safe pick: it plays on essentially every browser and device. WebM (VP9) is roughly 20-30% smaller at the same quality and loads faster, but very old Safari versions cannot play it. The robust approach is to list both inside one video tag — WebM first, MP4 second — and let the browser choose.
