Apple Touch Icon is the icon displayed when adding a website to the home screen on iOS devices. The standard size is 180×180px PNG.

Browsers hold on to favicons for an unusually long time, and a normal page refresh rarely dislodges them. Check by typing the icon file's URL straight into the address bar; if the new image appears there, do a hard refresh or open the page in a private window. To make sure every visitor sees the change, the reliable route is to rename the file — favicon-v2.png, say — and update the link tag to match.

An icon drawn only in black lines all but vanishes on a dark tab bar. Instead of leaving the background transparent, lay down a brand-colored circle or square and place the shape on top; the silhouette then holds up in both light and dark themes. An SVG favicon can even switch colors with a media query in dark mode, but keep a PNG alongside it for browsers that do not support that.
