Frequently asked questions about Sitemap Generator
Why do I need a sitemap?
A sitemap helps search engines discover and index all pages on your site. It's especially important for new or large websites.
How many URLs can I include in a sitemap?
According to the XML sitemap standard, a single sitemap can contain up to 50,000 URLs and must not exceed 50MB in file size.
What do I do after generating the sitemap?
Upload the file to the site root (https://example.com/sitemap.xml) and add a single Sitemap: line with the absolute URL to robots.txt. Then submit it in Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and Naver Search Advisor. Submission only helps discovery, it never guarantees indexing, so check back after a few days that the status reads as read and that the number of discovered URLs matches what you expected.
Which URLs belong in a sitemap and which should be left out?
Include only the canonical addresses you actually want in search results: URLs that return 200, are not marked noindex, and are the canonical version of the page. Leave out login pages, carts, internal search results, tracking-parameter URLs and old addresses that redirect. Mixing those in fills Search Console with errors and spends crawl budget on pages that will never rank instead of the ones that matter.
How to get the most out of Sitemap Generator?
One sitemap holds up to 50,000 URLs or 50 MB — split larger sites and add an index file.
Write lastmod as ISO 8601 (2026-01-31) and only when the page really changed.
Submit the file in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, then link it in robots.txt.
